Why AccSoc? At the beginning of my first year at UNSW AccSoc was just one of several societies I applied for. However over my years with AccSoc, what began as a happy accident has become a defining aspect of my university life. I have met and worked with the most incredible, supportive and ambitious team who have challenged me and pushed me outside of my comfort zone, allowing me to grow as in individual and opening doors to opportunities that I would not have otherwise taken. There is no other team I would rather work with.

Interesting Fact: In year 7, my Dad made me memorise all the non-metals, semi-metals, metals and noble gases on the periodic table in Mandarin because he said it was going to be very useful knowledge. I can still recite it and I am still waiting on a situation where I will have to call upon that knowledge.

Why AccSoc? Accsoc is a great environment for students to develop towards their professional aspirations. As one of the largest societies in UNSW, being able to contribute to events has been personally fulfilling, knowing how much impact our events have on the student community. Furthermore, I have made a huge network of friends due to my involvement with AccSoc over the years, many of whom I am still very close with to this day. I personally believe that one of AccSoc’s key strengths is the cohesiveness of our team which allows us to produce high quality events and further our individual ambitions.

Interesting Fact: I have a cat named Blacky Chan. We found him in the backyard as an abandoned kitten and raised him as an outdoor cat. He’s temperamental, curious and very adventurous. Sometimes he disappears overnight and turns up the next morning only to demand food. How Bossy.

It wasn’t until I joined AccSoc, did I gain confidence in myself and my passions. Why AccSoc? AccSoc has shown to truly care about the professional and personal development of its members, and extends that support to the broader student community. The society strives to open up the pathways to a successful professional career by emphasising with what university students inherently struggle with and then tailoring events to target specific areas of development. It is great to see how we seek to activate a forward-thinking mindset in students, so that they are able to make informed decisions about their future right now and continue to build upon a foundation for success. To a rewarding 2019!
