AccSoc is thus proud to kick off our *3 PART EXCEL SERIES* with this first event, the 'Beginners Excel Workshop'. This event is designed to introduce you to the very basics of Excel, perfect for beginners who are interested in learning Excel for the first time.

AccSoc will be simulating an Assessment Centre, where tips and tricks on good AC technique/strategy will be presented by UNSW Career Accelerator! Like a real AC, attendees will be sorted into groups and assessed through their ability to work together to find an appropriate solution to a mock case study! Experienced industry representatives will be reviewing both your group and your INDIVIDUAL performance, and providing you with valuable feedback so you can see what you did well and what you can improve on.

Want to learn how to make your dollar go the furthest? Looking to gain an insight on ideal budgeting tips to apply in your daily transactions? Interested in understanding where that superannuation goes and how to maximise its growth? Or simply just want to learn how to improve your spending habits? Well, look no further as Findex has partnered with AccSoc with one goal in mind: giving students greater financial literacy!

With the opening of many Vacationer and Graduate position applications recently, it’s the perfect time for AccSoc to announce the beginning of our Mock Recruitment Process (MRP)! This will be a 5-week series, with a separate event being held EACH WEEK, all simulating a different stage of the recruitment process - the same process used by the Big 4 accounting firms, banks and many of the ‘Top100 list’ of employers!

If you’re interested in a role in AccSoc but don’t know which portfolio is best suited for your strengths and interests, then head on over to our Team Meet and Greet! With our directors and executives present, you will have the opportunity to fire away any burning questions, from what AccSoc’s culture and vision is, a day in the life of a subcom, or even the perks of being part of the team.

Being part of the subcommittee of a portfolio means being part of a small group of passionate students to produce content and transforming AccSoc to greater heights. You will be led by the portfolio directors and execs as part of the bigger AccFam in order to realise AccSoc’s vision and mission for 2022. In doing so, you will form close, rewarding relationships with your peers and have lots of fun while engaging in a variety of outings including our annual society-wide road trip!

At this event, you will learn all about how data analytics will drive the accounting profession as it uncovers valuable insights into data and machine learning. These workshops will be run by tutors from the School of Accounting, Auditing & Taxation who are putting some time aside to help YOU achieve the best possible results. Run online, the workshops will be the perfect opportunity for you to learn about what you know and don’t know, so that you are as prepared as you can be for your final exams.

Each attendee will be paired up with an AccSoc representative who has been in a similar final interview before, to get help in preparing for a mock final interview. Then, attendees will be directed to complete a final interview with an industry representative, where you will answer questions in real-interview conditions!

AccSoc will be simulating an Assessment Centre, where tips and tricks will be presented by experienced industry representatives and members of the Careers Accelerator team! Attendees will be sorted into groups and assessed through their ability to work together to find an appropriate solution to a mock case study! Experienced industry representatives will be reviewing your performance, and providing you with valuable feedback.

This workshop will consist of tips and tricks to best prepare for the interview. We will also run through the commonly used STAR method and examples of a good video interview to help you understand the do’s and dont’s of a video interview! Additionally, you will receive personalised feedback on the responses you give during our mock video interview.

AccSoc is proud to announce that we will be holding our flagship Professional Develop Program (PDP)! You will be partnered with a professional mentor who is currently working in the industry; and through the one-on-one sessions with your mentor, you will be provided with experienced insight and knowledge regarding the professional world.

Psychometric assessments are used by employers to filter through a huge pool of candidates, and may come in various forms such as Numeric Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Situational Judgement tests. This event will involve a 2 hour workshop with insights and tips on mastering psychometric testing. After that, you’ll have the chance to apply that knowledge in a practice psychometric test in assessment-like conditions.

Our ‘How to Uni’ event will feature a panel of experienced students from diverse backgrounds who will share insights into everything uni, from study tips and tricks, to how to get into societies, advice on planning and kickstarting your career, and much more! If you have any questions about your opportunities in and outside of uni, this is the place to get answers!

The first stage of the MRP is Networking and Applications. It will explore how YOU can make a lasting impression on HR managers and differentiate yourself from other students. During this workshop, a representative from CAANZ will provide their insight on what they want to see from applicants during the first stage, and UNSW Career Accelerator will provide tips and tricks on what to do and what not to do when networking with industry reps.

We will be holding a Meet and Greet to give you an opportunity to mingle with the 2021 Team! As all directors and executives will be present, it’s a great chance to ask any questions you may have about specific portfolios, AccSoc’s culture and vision, day in the life of a subcom or even the perks of being part of the team.

As a peer mentor, you will be paired with a mentee where you will facilitate one-on-one mentoring sessions to help them find the best coffee on campus, fit into university or share academic tips and career advice. This program is designed to allow you to use your own experiences to guide younger UNSW students to help them avoid first year struggles.

AccSoc will once again be holding our highly demanded revision workshops. These workshops will be run by real tutors from the School of Accounting who are putting some time aside to help you achieve the best possible results, and will also be the perfect opportunity for you to see what you know and don’t know.

This is an amazing opportunity for you to develop yourself both personally and professionally and will also give you a chance to heighten your university experience! You’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, and teamwork skills through leading your very own subcommittee whilst also planning and creating the strategic direction of AccSoc.

AccSoc and ACCA is proud to bring you our Emotional Intelligence and Branding Workshop to build upon and develop these skills and make you the most attractive employment prospect. The speaking panel will include highly experienced and relevant speakers as well as providing invaluable tips and tricks from trusted and reliable sources!

At our event, speakers from Chartered Accountants will be dispelling the myths and misconceptions about accounting. Our panelists will be discussing their journey of becoming an accountant, providing valuable career insights to any business students interested in entering the profession. There will also be opportunities for you to find out if any of your own myths about accounting can be debunked with a Q&A session!

Like a real AC, attendees will be sorted into groups and assessed through their ability to work as a team to find an appropriate solution to a mock case study! Industry representatives will then be reviewing both your group and INDIVIDUAL performance, and providing you with valuable feedback so you can see what you did well and what you can improve on.

We will be covering courses, ACCT1501, ACCT1511, ACCT2522, ACCT2542. These workshops will be run by the excellent tutors from the School of Accounting who are putting some time aside to help you achieve the best possible results, and will also be the perfect opportunity for you to see what you know and don’t know.

Through allowing students to gain an understanding of the typical workplace environment, this event aims to empower students and broaden their choices when deciding future career pathways. Additionally, this event also aims to impart insight into frequently asked questions such as ‘What is the typical day in the life of an intern?’ and ‘What steps can I take to secure an internship at my desired company?’.

We’re proud to announce that we are holding our first ever T2 Mid-Term Accounting Revision Workshops in collaboration with the School of Accounting (SoA)! The Week 6 Flexibility Week is an ideal time for you to take stock of what you have learned so far in Weeks 1 to 5 of your accounting course and consolidate that knowledge with a view to re-energize yourself for studying towards the final exam.

‘Accounting Avenues’ is highly valuable to COMMERCE STUDENTS OF ALL YEARS. This educational workshop is designed to introduce students to different accounting career pathways. Further, students will obtain valuable advice in regards to professional accounting qualifications, and learn about internship opportunities that will accelerate your accounting careers.

The session will start with a quick crash-course of what psychometric testing encompasses, our tips on how to best tackle them and what you should look out for. Next, you will have the opportunity to apply that knowledge in the Kahoot. Like any other Kahoot, to achieve the maximum number of points, you will have to be both quick and accurate in your responses.

During these uncertain times, ACCA x AccSoc will help guide and teach you about this new and upcoming frontier of accounting! This webinar will talk about the impact of cutting-edge technology on the Accounting profession, the changes and new roles of accountants in the new decade and the digital transformation of accounting accelerated by COVID as well as the impact on accounting due to COVID.

This showcase is a unique opportunity for you to get to know representatives from your dream employers, the industry insights they hold and the opportunities they have to offer. Members of the recruitment teams and recent graduates will be present, across a broad range of Business fields, to answer your burning questions about the recruitment process and COVID19 disruptions, as well as give tips on getting an edge moving forward.

In collaboration with the School of Accounting, we are running online revision workshops for ACCT1501, ACCT1511, ACCT2522, ACCT3583, ACCT3563, and ACCT3708 in Week 11!

Whether it’s to finally make those claims of Excel proficiency on your resume a reality, or just to brush up on the most useful functions and formulas; AccSoc has got you covered with the return of our renowned Intermediate Excel Workshop. This will be an interactive workshop with a presentation mixed with live demonstrations. Worksheets will be provided with lots of examples so that attendees can practise the skills taught in the workshop.
